Students and scholars at Thomas Jefferson University collaborated to study and document the Hassrick House (1958-61), one of just a few local buildings designed by renowned modernist architect Richard Neutra. Their work began in 2015 and, ultimately, led to the University’s acquisition of the property in 2017 as the centerpiece of the Center for the Preservation of Modernism. A new book, Emergence of a Modern Dwelling: Richard Neutra’s Hassrick House, describes the process of documenting the house and researching the stories behind its design and construction, sharing the results from a variety of perspectives. The authors, Suzanna Barucco (sbk + partners) and Suzanne Singletary (Jefferson's Center for the Preservation of Modernism), will discuss their work in the context of a collaborative, education-driven approach to preservation.

A pre-event (5 p.m.), docent-led tour of the Hassrick House will be available to the first 25 registrants.

On-campus and Zoom attendance options available to attendees.
