SENSORY DESIGN

How can an object affect the senses? Does everyone share the same experience when facing design? Comfort, pleasure, awe, or confusion, design can impact individuals in many different ways. Sensory design will explore sensations on a personal level. Visitors will be confronted with unexpected and interactive performances and experiences.

Kicking off the event is an opening night on Saturday October 6th that will enable guests to discover and experience ten showcases hosted by the Philadelphia Design members. Each of them will offer an interpretation of the theme Sensory Design featuring a designer, an artist or an architect. As well, expect unique drinks and hors d'oeuvres meant to enlighten the senses in each gallery or showroom.

After the opening, and throughout the Design Philadelphia Week, the Philadelphia Design District will also host other happenings to gather the design community in Old City District.

Looks can often deceive. What could be an almost certainty to one’s eye can easily dissolve with a quick brush of the hand. Inventive Illusions will challenge the perception of materials and intention of art and design by inviting the viewer to explore reality beyond this first visual impression. In order to fully discover and understand a piece of design, it should be intimately experienced and explored with all of the senses. Inventive Illusions is hosted by Wexler Gallery in partnership with 'Sensory Design', presented by the Philadelphia Design District. Join us at 201 North 3rd St. for the opening on October 6th, from 6-9pm.
